Overtime on certified payroll: federal 40-hour week vs California daily
Federal: over 40 a week
On federal and federally assisted construction contracts over the threshold, the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act requires at least 1.5× the basic rate for hours over 40 in the workweek. Fringe benefits are owed for every hour but aren't multiplied.
California: daily and weekly
Labor Code 510: work over 8 hours in a workday, over 40 in the workweek, and the first 8 hours on the seventh day of work in the workweek is paid at 1.5×; over 12 hours in a day, and over 8 on the seventh day, at 2×. Alternative workweek schedules and collective bargaining agreements can change this; prevailing wage determinations in California also set their own overtime rates — check yours.
In Wagesheet
Pick the rule: federal, California daily or as entered (type 8+2 for 8 straight and 2 overtime, or 8+2+1 with double time). Wagesheet splits each day, applies the weekly limit across all of a worker's classifications, prints ST/OT (and DT) lines, and flags overtime or double time paid at less than 1.5× or 2×.
